Description:
Pompei Plan of the Olive Mill. [See image for drawing.] This is a passing rough sketch but gives the idea. ::::::::: Feb: 17, 1906. That night we went on to Cava by slow train, to the Hotel Victoria. Fine rooms for 3 francs including light and service. Of course we tipped all around. Dinner 4 fr. including wine. Breakfast inc. preserves 1.25. An old Italian Lady who spoke English was a pleasant fat old lady. The concierge of the Hotel hired us a carriage to Sorrento and showed much knowledge of human nature in the bargaining. We thought [?] of trying to make a separate bid down town but he had a boy posted at the stable to head us off! Cava has a wonderful narrow street 2/3 mile long with colonnaded buildings either side. On Sunday morning early it was crowded.
