Edinburgh to Perth [September 8, 1905]  Left Edinburgh at 7:30 a.m., stopped off at Stirling for one hour to view the old town and Stirling Castle. Fine view from the ramparts of the latter over the valley of the Forth River, the Wallace Monument with lantern tower on a hill two or three miles away and, diversified country of farms, villages, woods and hills. At 10:18 went on to Perth - for I am making a pilgrimage to Scone to see the monument to David Douglas. Arrived in Perth, the "Fair City," at about 11:30 and went immediately to the Museum of Natural History, housed in a fine building, facing the River Tay, in order to gain information as to reaching the place of my quest. Sent my card up to the curator who came out and received me ::::::::: [Edinburgh to Perth] Sept. 8, 1905  most cordially. He knew of David Douglas but it transpired that he did not know of the monument. However, he at once proposed to accompany me to New Scone, meanwhile setting on foot inquiries for relatives of Douglas in order to fix the house of his birth. This was no easy matter. In a little shop we found a woman distantly related (her daughter named after David Douglas); she referred us to her mother at New Scone. The Curator, Mr. Alex Rodgers took me to his house for dinner. His wife a very hospitable and pleasant woman with decided intellectual interests. Then we walked out to New Scone, a village with the characteristic stone cottages of Scotland, many of them very
