Title:
Jepson Field Book volume 13 page 36
Description:
Brussels Botanic Garden [August 3, 1905]  residences are. Surrounded by crowded buildings they seem and are unpretentious like Liege the University seems housed in one building only more so here. But I could not well tell how much area the University covered. It may run back from its front quite a distance. The other two universities of the Kingdom are Louvain and Ghent. Brussels is in beautiful gala dress on account of the jubilee of independence (75th year), the streets being decorated with the Black, Yellow and Red flags in vertical bands, as ::::::::: [Brussels Botanic Garden] August 3, 1905  everywhere else, in Liege, Antwerp, etc. The great nuisance here are the picture post-card vendors who will come into the restaurants as you sit eating as well as accosting you on the street. I have refused 10 during one meal. The curb stones in this country are locked into each other so, [illustration in journal] only they fit snug. Have also seen them use a metal piece, so. [illustration in journal] At the Gallery of Old Masters, there are Rubens, VanDyck, etc. but while I studied them as thoroughly as possible I did not enjoy them like the pictures in the Gallery of Modern Paintings.
