Ukiah trees in its public grounds. There are fine Black Oak trees in the public-school yard, Black Oak & Douglas Spruce in a semi-public park back of the high-school -- a fine lot of Madronas in a town square in the centre of which there is a bandstand. A great many people are preserving the Madronas in their yards. There are more Madrona trees (and young ones too) than of any other tree. ::::::::: July 4, 1903. - Lupins for Rabbits. -- Near the Insane Asylum I met a man gathering the herbage of a Lupinus sp. to feed Belgian Hares. He said they were very fond of it. No. 2242. Black Oak. Young trees in the canons and higher up are conspicuous for their whiteness at this time! Spring dress!! Upper Mill Creek Canon. These young trees are often very "bushy" No. 2246. [Cirsium callilepis] Thistle. Small plant. Rather common in the chapparal and usually larger and often more branching. This species is distinctively the "Chaparral Thistle". Region of Lyon's Valley.
