Jepson Field Book volume 10 page 168
Ukiah to Lyon's Valley (Miyakma Range)  - "Erythronium grandiflorum -- no mottling on leaves; coll. first by Lewis and Clarke Exped; clear bright yellow flowers the color like a Ranunculus Californicus buttercup. Does not range into California at all," says Purdy. It is of low wet places; [illegible] of hillsides. If any northern one it is giganteum. (The habitat remark may have aplied to last-named sp] - "Erythronium revolutum -- very peculiar distribution, commencing at the Navarro River and running northward to Oregon [and British Columbia?] but with such a long range the area covered is only 4 or 5 mi. wide. There is a color change northward ranging from white [to pink and other shades.]" -- Purdy. No. 2241. [Corylus cornuta var. californica] Hazel. Mill Creek Canon. No. 2242. Godetia amoena G. Don. High slopes just above Log Barn, head of Mill Creek Canon, in brush. Abundant.    ::::::::: July 2, 1903.  - The Ukiah Valley from Purdy's trail is a mighty pleasing prospect -- the level of the valley rises slightly to the westward. Ukiah is near the western hills which rise rather abruptly into a high mountain wall as it does similarly on the east.  - The Coast Range Valleys are the most charming valleys of their kind in the world. The finest in California is the Napa Valley which is wonderfully beautiful at any season. To live in such a valley -- that were a fair estate to attain. Other beautiful ones are the Ukiah Valley, the San Ramon Valley, and, acc. Purdy, that stretch of the Sacramento Valley between Chico and the foothills.
