Blue Rock Ridge to Bell's Springs Ridge [Mendocino Co.]  - Maul Oak, 1/2 mi beyond Blue Rock on point of hill, 150 yd off road, 18 ft 5 in at 3 1/2 ft; 60 ft. h. (3 trees in a row, this the middle tree - Black Oaks on Blue Rock Ridge -- the much branched erect branches form and. also the form with few great branches  The  Black Oak display on the Bell's Springs ridge is also very fine, the whol ridge is beautified and crowned with it. - Maul Oak -- round-headed form and slender form (100 ft. high) in bottom of Rattlesnake Canon at Cummings. Maul Oak is a rare tree on the whole but in favored situations it is sometimes the predominant oak and where we find a good many on a hill we notice it!!! - Shell Rock, "square jagged rock"; and sharp peak = Iron Mt. The former 5 or 6 mi s.e. of Blue Rock. The latter    :::::::::  June 8, 1903.  about the same (?) distance s. of Shell Rock. - Black Oak, at 5000-6000 ft. in the Sierras, at 3500-4000 ft. on Blue Rock Ridge, near sea-level at St. Helena -- the greatest altitudinal range of any Calif. oak. Heals over axe-scars in blazes very rapidly. No. 2200. Blue Rock Ridge. Douglas Spruce. [Pseudotsuga menziesii (Mirb.) Franco]  also cones. - Bells Spring's to Laytonville. 25 mi                  to Willits    , 50 "                  to Ukiah        75 "                  to Harris      14 "                  to Garberville  23 "                  to Briceland    30 " - One passes on a broad hog's back from Blue Rock Ridge to Bell's Spring Ridge; by a narrow thin hogs back to the Harris & Ft. Seward Ranch Ridge.
