Bragg, Sherwood - Tsuga Mertensiana, 9.1 ft girth, 45-50 ft. high - Rose Bay, 15-18 scales to buds, -- outer, lanceolate -- subulate "bracts" Flower buds 6-8 times as long, containing flowers fully formed for anthesis a year hence -- these buds often fail to develop and small lateral leaf buds proliferate - Sea-beaten Redwoods near the ocean -- suggestive of Monterey Cypress - Vitality of the Redwoods, masts eaten to the top by fire -- fringe of foliage on one side nearly to the top. Bush growth from ::::::::: Valley, July 31 - Aug 1, 1897. about blackened stump. Fallen redwoods -- no tap root. -- noted near Ft. Bragg. Ft.
