Glenbrook, July 14, 1897  People here distinguish 3 vars. of Yellow Pine: -- Bull Pine, Yellow Pine, Black Pine. They say Libocedrus is on Mt. Hanna and Mt. St. Helena; That Sugar Pine is to be found on Felix McNulty's place 2 1/4 miles from Toll House; also on Livermore place east of McNulty's 1 1/4 mile; also formerly on Pope Mt but Oat Hill mine cut it all up for mining; on Cobb Mt one tree in 20 or 50 of the pine forest is Sugar Pine but the Glenbrook landlord says 1/4 of the forest is Sugar Pine. - Pinus ponderosa on Cobb Mt:  at 5 to 6 ft from ground. Trees about 100-125 ft. h. No. 1 = 11.7 ft No. 2 = 8.5 ft No. 3 = 10.7. ft No. 4 = 9.00 ft - Quercus chrysolepis -- first seen between Middleton & Glenbrook. ::::::::: Glenbrook to Scott Valley, July 14-15, '97  - Sambucus glauca at Glenbrook, the circ of 7.1 ft was taken at 1.9 ft. above the ground. Two limbs (5.7 & 3.6 ft. circ) branch at 4.6 ft. It is a protected tree, -- i.e. growing in the grounds of the resort. Height = 22 ft. - "Arrow-wood" = Amelanchier alnifolia - Mt. Hanna, Douglas Spruce 16.2 ft circ. at 5 ft. - Ranunculus flammula var. intermedius Hook  Mt. Hanna. - Pinus attenuata -- one tree on Glenbrook road to Big Valley, just beyond fork to "Sweetwater Valley Spring" road. - The tallest oak I ever saw in Lake Co. and the most remarkable of its type is at the upper ? end of Scott Valley near the Blue Lakes forks.
