Description:
The Big Schoolboy Fight at School One day at the Academy word ran around that there was to be big fight. The trouble was between Wirt Stice and George Morehouse. Why the matter was not fought out on the spot I do not know. Morehouse had a biting tongue and this was undoubtedly the root of the trouble. The school was then surrounded by a large cypress grove (Monterey Cypress) and in one of the openings between the trees to the northwest of the brick school all the boys of the school gathered. It was agreed that there should be rounds of so much time with one-minute intervals. Morehouse_s second was Frank Platt, second for Stice was Everett Williams, my cousin. I was unanimously elected for umpire, or rather referee.  ::::::::: Ralph Platt had been proposed for umpire by Morehouse, but objected to by the opposition strongly. However, I declined positively to serve. I was on good terms with Morehouse and Wirt Stice was an old-time schoolmate._ So nothing was left but for Ralph Platt to be umpire.  _ I think that he had been at Benter School with me. _ Yes! He said on in 1940!
