Columbia  2200 ft. ----------  No. 6417. Vicia villosa Roth. Sand [?] or Hairy Vetch ----- - Rattlesnakes. Mr. Grant ran into a den of rattlers above the house. Six were killed but more got away. The dogs attacked in force and as a result their heads were terribly swollen. Dogs are never or seldom killed by rattlers and attack them ferociously. The dogs go to mud and rub their wounds. They also lick each other's wounds. Today Dewey was licking a skin cut in the face of Shep.. ----- Cont. 6352. Upper pair of stamens slightly shorter. Tube of cor. whitish, not colored or tinted crimson. ----- Cont. 6397. This is undoubtedly Arctostaphylos manzanita. Good flowering specimens were later collected by Mrs. Grant and spms. from Columbia compared at St. Helena. -- July, 1918. ::::::::: June 9, 1915.    [Tuolumne Co.] ----------  No. 6418. Gilia gilioides Greene. [Allophyllum divaricatum (Nutt.)] Corolla crimson, salverform but the tube somewhat clavate tho' slender. Stamens unequal. Style much exserted  Dry hills. = var. volcanica (Brand) Jepson _ Hoover. No. 6419. Verbena prostrata L. 3 to 4 ft. h. Cor. pale purple. Dry gulches. No. 6420. Hpericum [sic] concinnum Benth. Petals yellow, elliptic, 7 lines long. Dry hills ----- - Delphinium glaucum.
