Malvastrum [crossed out] Fls. apricot-yellow, like No. at Ord Mt but smaller fld.  Large fls here also. = Sphaeralcea ambigua Gray. No. 5962. Opuntia basilaris Engelm. Old Woman Sprs. Sandy mesa. Fls rose-red, large. :::::::::  14 May 1914 - We traveled to Shay's Well by the open valley mesa s.e. from Old Woman Sprs, turning through the low series of buttes which can be seen from the ranch house.  From that point the almost straight course changes to south and we hug to the right, passing two great "draws", like huge empty river beds with high banks - very interesting places.  Then into another draw and follow up it (in its bed) through the sand a long distance.  A hard pull which tired out the horses and us - and made us feel we  were missing the right way.  We were anxious
