Sidewinder Mine in vicinity], one keeps to right side of the great broad valley we crossed in going to Stoddard's  Well from Barstow.  We finally pass a point,  going between a little butte and the point proper (on our right, across the valley to another low point which we pass over and then wind through a gorge and up onto a mesa and across the mesa straight towards Ord Mt. We strike at right angles the main road south to Rabbit Springs, turn to left and wind over mesa and finallly  come into :::::::::  10 May 1914. road leading to Osborne's Camp (on n.  side Ord Mt.) from Doggett after passing the point and little butte first above referred to if we had taken the wagon trial to right (both "roads" were mere trails) we should have come by a higher and better and probably longer road.  Leaving here Ord Mt. (we leave to right two roads, one to Stoddard's  Well, and a dim road). Then a road to left with [monument] and burnt Joshua's goes to Smith's Well.  We take road to right.  At next fork the right hand road is to Stoddard's Well.  The left is our road.  A black and alos a white butte must be passed to our right.  If we have them
