Barstow to Stoddard's Well - Chrysopsoid composite, no. 5902? 5925 common in stream beds near Stoddards Well, rarely over 6 to 8 inches high, many-stemmed from  base. No. 5895. Lupinus horizontalis Hel. Axial  stem which flowers early and has already shed the seed from its pods.  This stem, 4 or 5 inches high, is already completely hidden from view by the many stems from  the base, ascending [others] erect, several (shortly) branched  Flowers lavender,  some changing  to white.  Mesas s. of Barstow.  L horizontalis var. platypetalus C.P.Sm. - Det. C.P. Smith. L. microcarpus Sims var. horizontalis Jepson Det. W.L.J. :::::::::  A Big Dry Valley s. of first summit s. of Barstow  8 May '14 No. 5896. Ericameria monactis  McCl. Compositae. Mesas s.  of Barstow 1 to 1 1/2 ft. h. No. 5897. Cassia armata Wats. Washes s. of Barstow.  Coloring the washes yellow for miles, 1 to 2 ft. h. No. 5898. Acamptopappus shpaerocephalus Gray. Camp. first valley beyond simmit s. of Barstow. 1 to 1  1/2 ft. h. mostly.  The spots of yellow color  made by these depressed globose plants add greatly to the festive appearance of the desert at this season.  See 5907. See pp. 93, 97. No. 5899. Franseria dumosa.  The commonest species in the deset  after  Larrea.  Mostly 1 to 1 1/2 ft. h. No. 5900. Dithyrea californica Harv. Rare No. 5900a. Erysimum asperum DC. Rare No. 5901. Glyptopleura setulosa Gray. Cichoriaceous. Beautiful but very dilicate pale yellow.
