Barstow to Stoddard's Well - The road leads south from Barstow.  It runs over the  mesa many miles with Calico Mt. in view to rear left.  We pass a smmit and descend into a broad valley where  there  is  good botanizing; ascend a low range and pass through it onto  a descending slope into and up a  narrow valley to Stoddards Well which is on a spur (north side of it), east fo Stoddard's Peak, the prominent landmark of this country and towards which we had been heading all day.  We got in late and began to get anxious about water supply, when the tank could be seen shining under the last rays of the descending sun.  It is a beautiful camp spot, with fine view, good grass and abundant & good water. :::::::::  May 8, 1914. Posted sign on the Desert, at Stoddard's Well. Fifty Dollars Reward! For the discvery of the body of  Samuel Willis, supposed to have been lost on the desert near Doggett, California about  August 4, 1913.  Information  regarding same to be sent to A. L. Willis. 1721 East Fifth St., Long Beach, Calif. - Doc Smith says:" His horses were found, one loose, and it was feared he was lost.  Two parties were started out.  I went on foot with one man and followed one trail. Another party on horseback took up the other trail.  The  other trail  proved to be his last trail but in a certain place they said they lost it and came back.  Well anyone can follow a trail on the desert.  They said we should have the horses and go out at noon but
