Jepson Field Book volume 28_168
Description:
cf. p. 85, Parallel vare. Simulation of Species, especially of different families.  Collomia rawsoniana and Calamintha mimuloides. Dodecatheon Jeffreyi foliage with that of Rumex occidentalis. Peucedanum (Cynomarathrum) Parryi and Cymopterus (Pseudocymopterus) anisatus. The likeness here is remarkable. Plants are much the same size. Leaves same shape, same decompounding, same segments. The primary divisions really represent alternate divisions on the rachis and not 2 opposite ones as usually seems to indicate larger divisions much condensed or reduced. The bractlets in Peucedanum Parryi are linear or oblanceolate, notched or incised at the apex.  ::::::::: [Simulation of Species, especially of different families.]  or entire (Telescope Peak, Jepson 7017; Charlestown Mts. [Mountains], Purpus 6086; Providence Mts. [Mountains], T. Brandegee; Johnson Canyon, Panamint Mts. [Mountains] Hall & Chandler 7014). In both species the season's shoot comes from strong winter buds terminal on the caudex with very large thin scales. Involucre none. The differences are: rays very unequal in Cym. anisatus, equal in Peu. Parryi.  Fruit 2 lines long, dorsal and intermed. [intermediate] ribs winged in C. anisatus; fls [flowers] whitish. Fruit 6 lines long, dorsal and intermed. [intermediate] ribs not winged in P. parry; fls. [flowers] yellow. For comparison with Cymopterus anisatus I use: Sierra La Sal, Southern Utah, Purpus & Grays Peak, Colorado, H.N. Patterson, 40. I am assuming that these two are named correctly but the simulation and contrast holds just as well. There is another -over-
