Jepson Field Book volume 28_148
Teratology. Osmaronia cerasiformis. One flower with 7 petals, 7 calyx lobes, 13 stamens. This of course was a [male-used symbol circle with arrow] fl. [flower] and contained no pistil-Oakland Hills, Feb. 10, noted in the field.  Dirca occidentalis. Corolla lobes 9, stamens 13; 2 distinct pistils. Noted in the field with preceding.  Plantago lanceolata L. Spikes leafy at end!-R. Kuhn, East Oakland, spm. [specimen] in hb. [herbarium]-1914.  Brewer's New Species. See p. 149. Polygonum Bolanderi Brew. Polygonum Shastense Brew. ::::::::: Brewer, W.H.  He seems to have, on the whole, collected few plant spms. [specimens] In a hasty running over of his Botanical Field Book I do not seem to note any plants from the southern Sierra Nevadas, Kings or Kern region. The expl. in that region was later in the Survey's work; by that time had he stopped collecting? See note p. 150; both these, Feb. 8, 1920. See p. 148.  List of species or new comb. b Brewer: Arenaria californica Brew. Prunus marginata var. mollis Brew. Polygonum davisiae Brew. Vicia americana var. truncata Brew. Lathyrus sulphureus Brew. Trifolium Beckwithii Brew. Cotyledon edulis Brew. Trifolium macraei var. dichotomum cf. "Notes on botanists of Cal. & W. Am," p. 46. p. 112.  The few names of Brewer, new sp. [species] or new vars [varieties] or combs. [combinations] are scanty. In a world of new things it is difficult to understand how he could have had so little botanical interest in Cal. [California] plants.
