Rancho Chico  is cashier at the Bidwell Office.  He says horses will seek Cal. walnut trees in preference to other trees, on account of the flies not being too numerous in the shade of such trees. - Sir Joseph Hooker Oak. Circum. of trunk just above ground 27 ft. 7 in. Circum of trunk 6 ft. above groun 28 ft. 4 in. Length of principal limbs on south side 101 & 105 ft. Length of limb on north side 99 ft. Circ. crown = 446 ft. Height = 105 ft. estimate by [Shinn].
