Colorado River, c. 300 ft. Near Riverside Mts. ---------- No. 5234. Cucurbita palmata Wats. Gourd. Dry wash. No. 5235. Eriogonum deflexum Torr Flowers hang in little clusters from under side of branches Dry wash. No. 5236. Asclepias subulata Dec. Milkweed. Stems in clusters, straight, tall, 3 to 4 1/2 ft. h!! Sepals and petals closely reflexed. Tension in petals such that when released at tip in bud by a penknife point they fly out radiately. Column with 5 triangular undulate scarious lobes sub-appressed over top and approximate. Horns long and erect, much exceeding column, consisting of 2 closely appressed wings vertical on inner side, these wings competely covering ::::::::: Riverside Mts., = Riverside Co. 28 Oct. 1912. ---------- a smaller shorter wing which ends in a distinct mucro at its middle. Flowers a dull yellowish-greenish-white. Bee caught in flowers!! - Acacia greggii Gray. Bush with horizontal (or trailing) main branches, and erect shoots. In dry wash, average of the large-sized individuals. Branches at base diam. as follows: 7 1/3 inches, 6 2/3 inches, 5 inches, 4 inches; and several others of the same average size not measurable for the thicket. Height 11 ft. Diameter of crown 31 ft.!! Leaves with pair [?] of pinnae: /Lower pair with 6 leaflets _ 7 leaflets _Second " " 7 " _ with 8 " _Third " " 8 " / 9 " Two counts! - Started the Lotus into the stream today at 12:30 p.m.
