Mohave Desert, Barstow. 2100 ft.  No. 5176.    [Lessingia germanorum var. ramulosissima (A. Nels.) J.T. Howell] Corollas irregular, as if 2-lipped, 3 lobes in lower lip, 2 upper lobes horizontally spreading. Comp. Rich sandy soil, borders wash. Odor strong like Calycadenia No. 5177.    [Gutierrezia microcephala (DC.) Gray] Composite with few fls to head. Wash. Heads 2-flowered, usually with 1 fl. reduced-radiate! No. 5178. see p. 28 cont.    [Chrysothamnus paniculatus (Gray) Hall] Trunks often 3 in. diam  Comp. gone to seed at most 4 to 6 ft. h. Trunk at base, 3 in. through several stemmed. Washes! Stem branching mostly above or tufted at top, erect & spreading, Chamisal type, open No. 5179.    [Lepidospartum squamatum (Gray) Gray]  Heads 11 or 12-flowered. Cedar-like Comp. 4 to 5 1/2 ft. high. Several-stemmed, the stems at 4 in. from ground often 6 in. circumference! The ::::::::: Oct. 20, 1912.  the non-flowering or bearing branchlets, (i.e. foliage-functioning) are fasciated or bunchy and very "cedar"-like, i.e. cypress-like. Corolla-lobes rather long, recurved, the flowers rather horizontally diverging or tending to diverge from head, the poll. apparatus long exeserted, the stigmatic branches obscurely puberulent. Odor strangely coniferous, taste also, with something else back of it, a strong astringency. Washes. Bush of the erect-spreading chamisal type; rather open. - Yucca arborescens, 12 to 18 ft. high, up to 5 ft 6 in circ. at 4 ft.
