Cypress Point to    Buttressed Trees. Trees are buttressed in response to strain on top. This strain is not wholly load of one-sided crown but wind strain on top.  Monterey Cypress. [See image for drawing.]  This tree was most strangely buttressed. It was 15 ft. circ. on drawn [?] tape at 4 ft. 70 ft. h. ::::::::: Pacific Grove, Mar. 6, '08    Board-like Trunks. These are very characteristic structures, 1 to 3 feet broad and 6 to 9 inches thick, with curious elbows. Cont. next p. Monterey Cypress  [See image for drawing.]
