Jepson Field Book volume 17 page 202d
Kelsey Trail cf. ante pp. 159-172. It is not so easy now (June, 1944) to make my notes harmonize with the maps-but trails have probably changed since 1907. 1. On leaving Cottage Grove on Klamath River we trailed up stream. The distance may have been short-a half-mile or a mile. 2. Then we struck up a ridge to Elbow Camp (see Elbow Spring on Klamath Map, U.S. Forest Service, west half, 1934.) 3. Next we went down into "Pitcher Plant Creek" of my notes, "Willis Hole" of the packers, probably Vann Creek of above map. 4. We climbed out to Cedar Camp, which is "Onion Patch" of the packers. This Cedar Camp is not on map (U.S.) and must not be confused with Cedar Camp of a trail west from Klamath River further south. 5. Summit of the Siskiyou Mts. 12 mi. south of Preston Peak. 6. After the summit, we trailed down west slope to South Fork Smith River. 7. Quartz Creek, Jones Creek, Big Flat. Jones Creek runs through Big Flat. 8. Red Hill, Bold Mt., Crescent City. ::::::::: 1907 Twp 40, Sec 10, R7:w. N.E. cor sec 10. N.E. direction from that. Ben Stout, Gazelle.  Queries How much will a 4 ft. log square? Can homestead act be applied to timber land? How much does it cost to scrip land?  Abel Faivre: "The Girl with the Fan" in the Luxemburg Gallery. "He has put into the painting the strange living interrogation of the eyes, found only in one other that I know, the most famous portrait of all time Leonardi's immortal Joconde.
