Santa Rosa ----------  patiently waiting for the dinner to end in order to hear Schroter's illustrated lecture on the flora of the Alps.    Schroter's illustrations were very beautiful and his English was excellent for a man who had given only a few months to the language.    The next morning, Saturday  I took Schroter and Stomps [?] to Santa Rosa to see Luther Burbank with whom I had arranged a meeting. When we arrived Burbank came into the parlor of his residence and I presented him to my fellow-travelers. He asked if we would like to    ::::::::: Sept. 13, 1913 ----------  sit down and talk there or to go into the garden(!). I said my friends hoped to see his plants, the particular things of which they had heard so much. He agreed and I remarked that perhaps we ought to arrange in advance the length of our call so that we would not trespass on his time. He said instantly that he gave five minutes to parties. I agreed and we went into his garden. He began by pointing out a considerable number of exotics from various places which he had there. My friends naturally grew impatient and asked for the Burbank creations, mentioning this and that. We were shown a few
