Berkeley ----------  - Vaccinium parvifolum. "Tree" 25 ft. h. Section of trunk at 4 ft. above ground = 2 inches diameter! Measured by W.C. Matthews, Bot. 104, who calls it a "shrub". Spm. in U.C. Bot. Mus. - Jan. 1914  Mr. Matthews says average height of this sp. in canon back of Devilbiss Ranch is 20 ft! The 25 ft. h. thing is a measured record. It was 25 and a fraction. - Arctostaphylos tomentosa. "Does not stump-sprout on Mendocino coast after a fire. Seedlings in quantity" -- W.C. Matthews. = A. columbiana! ::::::::: Feb. 1914. ----------  - Ranunculus californicus. Teratological. The green petaled form grows at Ingelside (sent by R. Kuhn), at Redwood City, see my spms coll. Mar, 1914, and near Walnut Creek. The Kuhn material is in U C - Congdon, J.W. Was certainly a keen-eyed collector. He found Stellaria umbellata at Tuolumne Mdws. and Lonicera caerulea at Crescent Lake, both great rarities in Calif. - Brandegee, T.S. Born 1843. See Biog. Record Classes 1868-1872, Sheffield Scientific School. Yale, 1910. This notice says married to "Miss Katharine Layne", which of course is not true since she had already married Curran.
