Jepson Field Book volume 27 page 140
Description:
Berkeley ----------  - Chorizanthe clevelandi. Calyx white, its lobes broadly oblong, truncate, denticulate or erosulate, the inner half as long as the outer. Flower shortly pedicelled. -- Mt. Konocti, Jepson. Stamens 3! inserted at base! - C. valida Wats. A fragment of type in Hb. U.C. Invol. spines rather short, straight. Calyx white, its lobes oblong, truncate, erosulate at apex, the inner half as long as the outer. Invol. 6-ribbed, wrinkled between the ribs, almost glabrous. -- Seems as if it had good chars. -- but collectors ought to be able to find it. - Chorizanthe membranacea  Note on Davy, Calaveras. Calyx segments obovate or spathulate, clawed, united only at base. Flowers 2, pedicelled. ::::::::: July 1913 ----------  - Hollisteria lanata. Heller's & Davy's spms. Flowers always 2, so far as I notice, shortly pedicelled, the longer pedicel quite conspicuous as a stub when the flowers are taken out. Involucre of 3 nearly distinct bracts but clearly joined a little at base, linear, 2 of them lateral and next to the foliaceous ovate bract, the third opposite and next the axis. I do not make out clearly that these 3 form a unilateral bract as said by Watson - Lambert, J.B., of Yosemite. Mentioned by Lemmon, Pac. Rur. Press, 16:162 (1878). - Mrs. R.M. Austin. Article in Bot. Gaz. vol. 8 on Sarcodes. - Hitchcock, A.S. Called today. Is making a circuit through the western states on his grass work. Has a very nice manner and a gentle blue eye that is very friendly. -- 12 July 1913
