The specimens of this number came from a tree in creek bed near Walnut Creek 18 ft. high, slender young tree. Stamens 29. No. 2650. Populus Fremonti. San Ramon Creek. Bark specimen 5 1/2 [5.5] inches thick. "Mr. Heurme, Alamo Station, 2 mi. [miles] from Danville, says he cut Redwood from the S.W. canyon of Mt. Diablo. Showed me the rail-fences, for which he cut the rails. The rails were redwood!"-R.H. Platt.
