Sand dune Valleys s. of Life Station, S.F. [San Francisco] [April 21, 1907] (opposite Merced Lake)  No. 2635. Lupinus Chamissonis Esch. Sand dunes. Corolla blue, banner with central white splotch which is only faintly dotted. Det. also C.P. Smith.  No. 2636. Lupinus arboreus Sims.  Upper lip scarcely or at all notched. Corolla clear lemon yellow. Det. also C.P. Smith.  No. 2637. (L. arboreus Sims Det. C.P.S.) Lupinus hybrid. Related to 2635. Upper lip deeply cleft. Banner whitish, yellow blush on center with fine dots. Wings faintly pinkish white. Whole cor. [corolla] aging pinkish except the yellow "spot," blue-veined spot at base of  :::::::::  April 21, 1907 [Sand dune Valleys s. of Life Station, San Francisco opposite Merced Lake]  wing. Keel ciliate above. Keel ciliate on upper half, strongly so. But I find on another plant the upper calyx tooth not cleft nor scarcely even notched. Not true! The lobes are [connivent and deceiving, altho[ugh] I think the cleft scarcely as deep as in other case. The banner in age may become purple! The flesh-tints of several kinds are very fine in this species. Leaflets 5 to 9.  No. 2638. Sand dunes. Lathyrus littoralis Endl. Banner crimson fading lilac or purple. Wings permanently white. Deep tap-root. Not on beach exactly but on foot of sand dunes at edge of beach.
