Jepson Field Book volume 15 page 186
Description:
Berlin, Germany  of an early community! Mrs. Perkins liked California; she knew some nice people, Prof. Greene, Dr. Stearns, etc and moreover as California had taken its hold on her as it does on everyone who stays long enough she was unwilling to leave it and died in Berkeley.  Miss Perkins took her Ph.D. at Berlin. She worked at Chicago under Coulter before Coulter had left Lake Forest. Coulter came in once a week. Chamberlain was there. He is a brainy man. ---------- - What is worse than a giraffe with throat trouble? A centipede with chilblains. ::::::::: April 21, 1906.  = Eschscholtzia Californica Ch  Type. Two sheets. "Legit Chamisso  Portum Sancti Francisci Californiae in arenosis  A.D. 1817". (de Chamisso)". This label is not the hand of Chamisso. The label of the other sheet "In California leg. d. Chamisso. Chamisso ded. 1820" may be.  Caulescent, the leaves about 3-3.5 cm. long (exc. pet.), divided into linear segments 1/4 to 1 mm. wide, mostly 1/2 mm. wide, 2 to 5 mm. long.  I find it difficult to detect any pubescence on the spurs. At the base of one petiole I discover 3 or 4 short hairs. ---------- "People who live in grass houses should not keep cows." -- ?
