Name: Babcock, E. B. (Ernest Brown) (1877-1954)

Historical Note: Ernest Brown Babcock (July 10, 1877 – December 8, 1954) was a United States plant geneticist.  He was born in Edgerton, Wisconsin and moved to California in 1896 with his family.  He attended Los Angeles Normal School and graduated from the University of California with a B.S. degree in 1905 and a M.S. in 1912.  He was hired as an Instructor in Plant Pathology at the University in 1907 and as an Assistant Professor in 1912.  In 1913 he was promoted to Professor of Genetics in charge of the new Division of Genetics in the College of Agriculture.
