Index to Plant Chromosome Numbers (1956-) | University and Jepson Herbaria Archives, University of California, Berkeley

Name: Index to Plant Chromosome Numbers (1956-)

Historical Note: The Index to Plant Chromosome Numbers (IPCN) was started in the 1950s to provide an index of all original plant chromosome counts published in the world's literature. Annual indexes were initially supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation and coordinated by Marion S. Cave at Berkeley. Volunteers reviewed journals for chromosome counts to be included in the index. Cave edited the Index until 1966 when the Biosystematics Research Institute, Canada Department of Agriculture took over management of the project and R. J. Moore was the editor through 1974. After a publication break, in 1978 the project moved to the Missouri Botanical Garden and the Peter Goldblatt served as editor, joined by Dale E. Johnson as co-editor in 1987.  Missouri Botanical published the 2004-2006 index in 2010, after which the project was transferred to the International Association for Plant Taxonomy.
