Samples Sent Sudworth  No. 69. Quercus densiflora. Comptche, California, 1 1/2 mi.  e., up Ukiah grade, s. slope of canon. Tree 45 ft. high and      1 1/3 ft. diam. at one foot from ground where spm. was taken. Scattering Tan Oak among Redwoods. June 29, 1903 No. 70. Tsuga heterophylla, Sarg. Tree 125 ft. h., bark very  rough, fissured into very small oblong plates which are very  conspicuous at about 20-35 ft. above ground. North slope.  Diameter 3 ft. at 4 ft. from ground. Mendocino City. June 28, 1903. No. 71. Quercus densiflora. Stump aprout, 7 years old, 14 ft. 7 in. high, 2 1/4 in. diam. inside bark at 1 ft. from ground.  ::::::::: Samples sent Sudworth  Comptche to Low Gap, June 29, 1903. There were 16 leading sprouts around this stump, the remainder having been shade-killed. The sprout taken was the largest and tallest. June 29, 1903 No. 72. Quercus densiflora. Series taken from axis of one tree, 49 yrs. old and 45 ft. h. taken on ridge along which the road runs from Halfway House to Low Gap. & about 5 mi. e. of former place. Overshaded by open Redwoods. This no. taken at 1 ft (diam. inside wood = 7 in.) No. 73. Same. Taken at 5 10/12 ft.; diam = 5 3/4 in. No. 74  "      "  "  13 10/12 " ;  "  = 5 1/4 in.
