Description:
Hazel Green to Yosemite 5665 ft. July 5.  July 7-12.  of a young fellow from Coulterville who was driving a party to Hazel Green. Billy followed his horses up the hill. Then we went down hill and when we began the ascent to Hazel Green he balked again after being watered at a wayside trough. This was an error of judgment as we had been starving him with the idea of getting him to the end of the two miles before breaking his thirst. I went up to Hazel Green and got a packsaddle. Young fellow there came back with me and we tried the horse again and made him start with half a load. I came back from Hazel Green with an empty wagon and we took up the rest of the load. Fine botanizing_ around Hazel Green _ See p. 156 for Pleuricospora. ::::::::: July 5 - 14, 1896.  and all the way to the Valley. July 6. Started on with a light wagon. Billy required to be lead on all up grades. Lunched at Big Meadows. In the afternoon "put Billy through" on the down grade to the Valley. Took most of the stubborn streak out of him. July 7. Tuesday. In camp beneath the Royal Arches. Went to Vernal and Nevada Falls and many places about the valley. July 13. Broke camp; started early, 5:40 A.M. Lunched at Crane Creek. Reached Hazel Green between 4 & 5. July 14. Started at 8:00 A.M. Lunched a mile beyond Bower's Cave and camped 4 mi beyond Coulterville at an "Eyetalian's".
