Berkeley to San Jose  - Left Berkeley May 26, at 8:15 A.M. Lunched one mile beyond San Leandro under a "spreading almond tree" to quote the redoubtable "Weary Willie" i.e. W. A. Setchell. My own name is "Dusty Roads" - May. 27. Camped near Irvington in a pasture lot. Got into San Jose at 4 P.M. and decided to return to Berkeley on account of lame horse - May 28. Camped last night about 2 mi. north of Milpitas. Broke camp at 6.15. Lunched beyond Mt. Eden. Reached Berkeley at 8:00 P.M. - June 7. Yesterday tried out new horse and decided to ::::::::: May 26 - , 1896.  start this morning (Sunday) which we did at a few moments before 9:00 o'clock  Lunched just beyond San Leandro. Passed through San Leandro, San Lorenzo, Mt. Eden, Alvarado, Hall Station. Alviso School. Camped at the last named place -- where we camped before. Horse goes fine. The collecting about Alvarado in the marshy places is particularly fine.  June 8. Passed through Centreville, Irvington, Warm Springs, Milpitas. Lunched within 4 1/2 mi. of San Jose.
